Hash Tag Lessons
As many of you know, I am huge fan of Instagram – to be more accurate, I am addicted.
I enjoy every aspect of my photography workflow, except for the hashtags. When I think about it, this is true for bookmarking sites in Pinboard (personal related stuff) and Diigo (school related stuff) and my tweets. I find thinking of/creating hashtags difficult.
Robert Greco will certainly be a first ballot Hashtag Hall of Fame, as will Nicole Delano.
As I was trying to come up with relevant hashtags for one of my latest photos, I realized this activity could be useful for students to reflect on their thinking about a variety of content. As a teacher, I can get a quick glimpse into students’ understanding by looking at hashtags they have created.
Think about the hashtags students can create for Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart”, Lowry’s “The Giver”, and “The Diary of Anne Frank”…Think about the hashtags students can create to go along with their various writings…Think about the hashtags students can create based on their week as part of a weekly reflection…
Think of the nuance and attention to detail inherent in hash tags…
What are your thoughts?
